Using Video Files from External Data Storage for Processing and Data Extraction

Video data processing in GoodVision Video Insights involves extracting traffic data from video files. The system generates structured and anonymized vehicle trajectories based on the video material, pinpointing their position in both time and space. This process is automated using GoodVision's proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms and typically takes only a few hours for the results to be available in the Video Insights application.

Currently, there are three ways to process video data on the platform, depending on the type of data storage you use: GoodVision video storage (GoodVision Vault) or external storage options such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. The following text will guide you on how to provide video files to the application structure from these external storage solutions.

External storage vs GoodVision Vault

Processing from Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive can be suitable for companies that use these services as their main storage for project data. This option eliminates the need for manual work, such as downloading recordings from your storage and uploading them to the GoodVision platform. By using external storage, you also avoid additional costs associated with storing data in GoodVision Vault.

GoodVision only has read-only access to your data, ensuring your files remain secure. You also have the option to delete the files from your external storage after processing, maintaining full anonymization.

On the other hand, using GoodVision storage (GoodVision Vault) opens up more advanced possibilities for traffic data analysis that are not available for videos stored in external storage options like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. For example, GoodVision Vault allows for features such as video playback directly within the app for event review and automatic number plate recognition(ANPR). If you are using a different data storage solution than Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, please don't hesitate to let us know via live chat or at support@goodvisionlive.com. We are always open to exploring new options and learning about different storage solutions.

How to connect external storage to the project

To process videos in GoodVision Video Insights, you need to connect your preferred data storage. While GoodVision Vault is the default storage option, you can also connect your Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive account to the GoodVision platform and process your video recordings directly from these external storage solutions. You can use both GoodVision Vault and external storage options simultaneously.

To connect an external storage account, in the Advances settings of the project simply click on the connect button next to your chosen storage option. You will then be redirected to a consent screen where you can grant GoodVision Video Insights read-only access to your files. Please note that you can revoke GoodVision's access to your data at any time through the ‘Data and Privacy’ section of your Google account, or the equivalent settings in Dropbox and OneDrive. The access link will automatically expire after six months of inactivity.

Once access is granted, a storage preview will open in the GoodVision app, allowing you to select the root folder you want to work with. You can change this root folder at any time by adjusting the settings in your project.

Once the external storage is connected, you can proceed by setting up your preferred project structure for data processing.
